West leads Buford tennis in 4-1 win

No. 1 singles player Colby West recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win for the Buford High boys tennis team in a 4-1 victory against Flowery Branch on Wednesday afternoon in Buford. Skyler Wilson and Jabin Stepp came back from a set down to finish 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles for the Wolves.

Nathan Sengkhammee and Isaac Black recorded the 7-6, 6-7, 11-9 win for the Falcons (3-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAA) at No. 2 doubles.

Buford hosts Providence Christian at 3:30 p.m. today and Flowery Branch visits Madison County today.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 5, BUFORD GIRLS 0: After losing the first set, Anna Kate Shaw came back to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 for the Lady Falcons on Wednesday afternoon in Buford. No. 2 doubles duo Durden Smith and Bekki Benton added 6-1, 6-4 win for Flowery Branch.

The Lady Falcons visit Madison County today and Buford hosts Providence Christian at 3:30 p.m. today.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 5, TOWNS COUNTY 0 (TUESDAY): Eric Fesser won in straight sets in singles for the Eagles on Tuesday in Hiawassee. Jake Weiner and Alex Moyers also shut out the Indians winning 6-0, 6-0 for Riverside.

Soccer

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 2, HOLY INNOCENTS’ 0 (TUESDAY): After a scoreless first half, Ricardo Madero scored for the Eagles with a shot from 18 yards out off of an assist from Gabriel Rodriguez Tuesday night in Gainesville. Near the end of the second half, Madero scored off a penalty kick to secured the win for Riverside. Victor Salcedo recorded five saves for the Eagles and earned his first shut out of the season.

Baseball

HABERSHAM CENTRAL 6, JOHNSON 5 (TUESDAY): Dalton Murray had three RBIs on two hits for the Raiders, and singled in the first and second innings Tuesday evening in Hiawassee.

Trae Wilson led the Knights going 2 for 3 with one RBI, hitting a triple in the fifth inning and singled in the seventh.

Habersham Central visits Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. Friday, and Johnson visits Cedar Shoals at 5:45 p.m. today.

Golf

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 148, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 149 (TUESDAY): Hunter Dutruch shot a 32 for the Eagles on Tuesday afternoon in a seven-hole game, due to darkness, at the Trophy Club of Apalachee in Dacula.

Coleman Lowenthal had a 25, Justin Cabe hit a 40 and Robert Bauer finished with a 41 for Riverside.
