Johnson baseball wins in eight innings against Cedar Shoals

Chris White, AJ Benefield and Jackson Frazer all hit home runs to lead Johnson past Cedar Shoals 10-9 Saturday afternoon in Oakwood.

White finished 3 for 4 with one walk and three RBIs, and Benefield drove in four runs and pitched 5 À innings of relief with 11 strikeouts and one earned run. Win Griffith finished 2 for 4 with an RBI and Adam White pitched a scoreless eighth for the win.

Johnson (2-0) visits Habersham Central at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Airy.

WEST HALL 11, EAST HALL 1: Zach English and Turk Taylor both pitched the Spartans (2-0) to victory on Saturday in Oakwood. English pitched the first 3 Ã innings and Taylor threw the final 2 À innings, allowing no earned runs and no walks in the six-inning game.

At bat, Cameron Johnson led West Hall with three hits and three runs scored, while Jake Shirley finished with a double and a triple.

English added two hits, two runs and two RBIs. West Hall visits Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Dahlonega.

GAINESVILLE 15, WEST LAURENS 0: Red Elephants (3-0) sophomore Michael Gettys pitched four innings to earn the win with five strikeouts, and added four hits and six RBIs on Saturday at Ivey-Watson Field.

He also added a triple and home run for Gainesville.

David Gonzalez added two hits and two runs for Gainesville, while junior catcher Skyler Weber had two hits and an RBI.

Gainesville visits Jefferson at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday at Horace Jackson Field in Jefferson.

LUMPKIN COUNTY 14, DAWSON COUNTY 4: Will Anderson powered the Indians (1-0) to victory in the season opener with a solo home run and scored three runs in Dahlonega.

Freddie Beamon scored three times and drove in a pair of runs for Lumpkin County, which plays host to West Hall at 5:30 p.m. Monday in Dahlonega.

WHITE COUNTY 8, HEARD COUNTY 6: Trailing 6-2 Saturday, White County's Montana Saine connected on a grand slam at the Home Plate Invitational in Peachtree City.

Kevin Alexander, Jerry McClure and Brett Westmoreland each added a pair of hits for the Warriors, who face West Hall on Wednesday in Cleveland.

WHITE COUNTY 7, MLK JR 5: Dylan Lee pitched five innings of no-hit ball and earned the win Saturday.

Westmoreland had a pair of hits with a double for the Warriors. Saine and Will Flowers each added two hits for White County.

BUFORD GIRLS 4, SAVANNAH COUNTRY DAY 1:
Izzy Ortiz had two goals for the Lady Wolves (3-1), and Melissa Sullivan and Brooke Horist each scored once on Saturday in Gwinnett County.

Buford visits North Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Brickyard.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 4, GALLOWAY 0 (Friday): Ryan Marcano and Ricardo Madero each scored twice for the Eagles (3-0) and David Clavijo recorded his second shutout of the season with three saves to grab the win in Gainesville.

Riverside returns to the pitch at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Innocents (3-1).

EAST HALL BOYS 6, FANNIN COUNTY 0 (Friday): Jason Mendoza scored two goals and assisted on a third, and Saul Lopez scored twice to open Region 8-AA play with a Vikings' win.

Julio Avila (one goal, one assist) and Edgar Cerrano (one goal, one assist) added to the scoring and Arnold Lopez, Jorge Meza and Jesus Carillo recorded an assist each.

East Hall plays at Johnson at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

FANNIN COUNTY GIRLS 6, EAST HALL 1 (Friday): Bertha Rondon scored the lone goal for the Lady Vikings (0-3, 0-1 Region 8-AA) in Blue Ridge.

East Hall travels to Johnson High at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
