Led by Daniel McCrary’s 24 points, the Lumpkin County boys’ basketball team secured a state playoff spot by knocking off third-seeded Lanier 70-65 in the Region 8-AAAA tournament quarterfinals on Saturday in Sugar Hill. The Indians, seeded sixth, held off a second-half rally by the tournament host Longhorns. Lanier cut their lead to one late, but Lumpkin County managed to hang on by shooting 9 of 12 from the field in the fourth quarter.
