Tay Taylor put up 26 points for the Jefferson boys in a 65-41 win over Social Circle in the first round of the Region 8-AA tournament on Monday at Rabun County High in Tiger.

Satchel Turpin added 12 points for the Dragons, who face Union County in the second round of the tournament at 8:30 p.m. Friday in Tiger.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 53, MONROE AREA 27: Bridgette Kelly scored 13 points and Tyler Bennett finished with 12 as the Lady War Eagles (22-4) earned a spot in the Class AAAA state playoffs on Monday night with a first-round region tournament win in Sugar Hill.

Deanna Bradberry scored seven points, while Kayla Watson and Macey Jarrard each contributed with five.

Chestatee is scheduled to play Stephens County 

Thursday at 7 p.m. at Lanier High School in Sugar Hill.

RABUN COUNTY BOYS 83, RIVERSIDE MILITARY 70: Despite Avery Cagle’s 31-point performance, the Eagles saw their season come to a close on Monday night. Riverside Military finished the season with a 10-12 record.

Cagle finished with 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists in what coach Lazarus Chennault called “his best game of the season.”


CHESTATEE BOYS 4, WEST HALL 1: The War Eagles swept the doubles matches with wins from Reed Johnson/Austin Passmore and Logan Gruenenfelder/Ethan Kapiloff on Monday at Alberta Banks Park in Flowery Branch.

Tyler Burgess won at No. 2 singles for Chestatee, and Hasten Haynes earned the victory at No. 3 singles.

West Hall’s Johnny Griffing won at No. 1 singles.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 3, WEST HALL 2: Chestatee’s Haley King/Grace Brown and Carolina Gijon/Melanie Smith paired up for doubles victories on Monday in Flowery Branch.

Lily Kiang earned the win for the Lady War Eagles at No. 1 singles.

For West Hall, Yennifer Clarin won at No. 2 singles and Katie Harbin got the victory at No. 3 singles.
