Several individual milestones were passed on Tuesday night in Oakwood as the Johnson boys basketball team defeated Jefferson 79-69.
The Knights’s Matt Hollis became the ninth player in school history to pass 1,000 career points midway through the first quarter. Hollis finished the game with 32 points.
Johnson’s Montrell McKenzie had a dominating performance in the paint, recording his first career triple-double with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks.
Ty Odem posted a double-double for the Knights, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 boards.
The Dragons were led by Austin Thompson and Will Puckett’s 13 points apiece, while Andre Daniel scored 12 points.
The Knights (3-2) opens subregion play at 8:30 p.m. on Friday when they visit Walnut Grove.
BUFORD GIRLS 73, SOUTH ATLANTA 18: The Lady Wolves’ Kaela Davis scored 26 points as Buford routed South Atlanta on Tuesday in Buford. Kristina Nelson added 23 more points for the Lady Wolves (2-0) as the team held South Atlanta to seven second-half points.
Buford visits Therrell at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
COMMERCE 44, ATHENS ACADEMY 34: Allie Morgan had 13 points as the Lady Tigers used an 18-point fourth quarter to separate themselves from Athens Academy. The Lady Tigers shot 12 of 15 from the free throw stripe in the final period to seal the victory over the previously undefeated Lady Spartans (2-1).
Commerce (2-2) visits Jefferson at 7 p.m. on Friday.
FORSYTH CENTRAL 44, CHESTATEE 40: The War Eagles fell in overtime to Forsyth Central in Cumming on Tuesday night. Maegan Kenimer and Savanna Long each had nine points and seven rebounds for Chestatee (4-2).
The Lady War Eagles host Habersham Central at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
WESLEYAN BOYS 47, NORTH HALL 46: Ebo Smith had 14 points as the Trojans lost to Wesleyan on Tuesday in Gainesville. Preston Smith added 12 points for North Hall (3-1) in the loss.
The Trojans host East Hall at 8:30 on Saturday.
BUFORD 84, SOUTH ATLANTA 64: The Wolves won their second straight game as Isaiah Williams had 22 points and Trevor Shipes score 13 in the Buford win. The Wolves outscored South Atlanta 36-21 in the second half.
Buford visits Therell at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Wrestling
The Chestatee War Eagles dominated Lanier with nine team pins in a 69-12 win on Tuesday in Gainesville.
Brian Carannza (106 pounds), Jose Reyes (113), Taylor Albarado (126), Zach Cheshire (132), Trevor Comeaux (145), Taylor Wright (160), Malik Wesley (152), Cody Humphries (182) and Dylan Brock (195) all earned wins for Chestatee by way of pins.
Kyle Wesley (152) won with in a 7-0 decision over his opponent.
The War Eagles compete again on Saturday in the Creekview Tournament.
