West Hall boys power past North Hall

Shunquez Stephens poured in a game-high 22 points for the West Hall High boys and Dre Pou scored 14 in a 73-67 win against North Hall on Thursday in Oakwood. Trailing by 4 after the first quarter, the Spartans (10-3) outscored North Hall 19-8 in the second period.

Jarquise Young finished with 13 points for the Spartans. Kanler Coker scored a game-high 12 points for the Trojans. Hamilton Harper and Amin Aziz each chipped in 11 points for North Hall.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 53, WEST HALL 42: Sarah Paschall scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the North Hall High girls en route to a win against West Hall on Thursday in Oakwood.

McKenna Rushton scored 13 points with 10 rebounds for the Lady Trojans and Mary Kate Rushton added 12 points. Amber Johnson led the Lady Spartans (5-9) with 16 points and Brooke Reed added 11.

JOHNSON BOYS 64, NORTH FORYSTH 49: The Knights snapped a two-game losing skid and took third place in the JHS Holiday Shootout in Oakwood thanks to a dominant showing on the glass, especially in the second and third quarters.

Johnson, which was led by Ty Odem’s 18 points and 14 rebounds, outscored North Forsyth 17-8 in the second quarter and 23-10 in the third quarter to take a commanding 50-33 lead. The Knights (8-4) grabbed 22 offensive rebounds during the two quarters.

FORSYTH CENTRAL GIRLS 57, JOHNSON 44: Caitlin Sloan led the Lady Knights (6-6) with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four steals on Thursday in Oakwood. Christy Hewatt led Forsyth Central with 13.

OLYMPIA HIGH BOYS (N.C.) 67, EAST HALL 64: The Olympia High boys tied the game with less than 20 seconds remaining, then drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to knock off East Hall in the fifth-place game of the Upward Classic on Thursday at Dorman High in Spartanburg, S.C.

J.C. Hampton led East Hall (7-4) with 22 points and was selected for the All-tournament team. Kymon Woods scored 14 for the Vikings.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 63, SOUTH ATLANTA 28: The Lady War Eagles cruised to a win behind 18 points and five rebounds from Peyton Robertson.

Melissa Bailey added eight points and seven rebounds for Chestatee (10-2, No. 3 Class AAA), which hosts Pickens in its next game, at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

WINDER-BARROW BOYS 46, FLOWERY BRANCH 44: The Falcons finished in eighth place in the Jared Cook Holiday Tournament after Thursday’s loss at North Gwinnett High.

James Hodges led Flowery Branch with 14 points, while Jamaias Davis and Qua Flanigan led the Bulldoggs with nine points each. The Falcons return to action on Tuesday at East Hall.

NORTH FORSYTH GIRLS 49, LAKEVIEW 26: The Lady Lions were shutout in the third quarter en route to a lopsided loss in the JHS Holiday Shootout in Oakwood.

North Forsyth (5-7) led by nine at halftime and ran away with the win by outscoring Lakeview 16-0 in the third.
