North Hall earns sweep against Johnson

Ethan Smith scored a team-high 20 points for North Hall and senior Imani Cross added 17 in a 70-57 win against Johnson on Saturday in Gainesville.

The Trojans surged ahead to a 22-11 lead after the first period and extended their lead to 42-21 by halftime. Preston Smith and Griffin Olson each scored 12 for the Trojans (5-1).

Matt Hollis scored a game-high 22 for the Knights. A.J. Benefield and Ty Odem each scored 11 for Johnson.

The Knights managed to mount a bit of a comeback in the second half, outscoring North Hall 23-12 in the third period.

North Hall plays host to Pickens at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Gainesville. Johnson hosts Winder-Barrow at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood.

NORTH HALL GIRLS 76, JOHNSON 43: Sarah Paschall put up 18 points with 10 rebounds for the Lady Trojans (4-2) on Saturday in Gainesville.

Sisters Mary Kate and McKenna Rushton each scored 16 for North Hall, which led 43-23 at halftime. Ryleigh Shannon led Johnson with 10 points.

WEST HALL BOYS 57, MOUNTAIN VIEW 53: A.J. Stephens poured in 20 points and Hunter Atkinson finished with 14 for the Spartans (3-4) on Saturday in Oakwood.

West Hall visits North Forsyth at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Coal Mountain.

MOUNTAIN VIEW GIRLS 48, WEST HALL 26: Kaelyn Gattis scored a team-high seven points for the Spartans (2-7) on Saturday in Oakwood.

West Hall slumped offensively in the first half with only nine points heading into halftime.

The Lady Spartans visit North Forsyth at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Coal Mountain.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 50, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 39: Erin Clifford led the Lady War Eagles with 14 points and five rebounds Saturday.

Tied 11-11 after the first period, Chestatee leaned on its defense to outscore Habersham Central 12-4 in the second period and take a 23-15 lead into halftime.

Bridgette Kelly finished with 10 points for Chestatee, which plays host to Winder-Barrow at 7 p.m. Friday in Gainesville.

DAWSON COUNTY BOYS 78, TOWNS COUNTY 42: The Tigers had five scorers in double digits on Saturday in Hiawassee.

Lucas Pain (15), Tyler Dominy (13), Will Anglin (12), Jackson Putnam (12) and Bruce Clark (11) all scored in double figures for Dawson County (6-1), which took control of the game by outscoring Towns County 19-5 in the second quarter.

Rylan Albach scored 17 for the Indians.

Dawson County visits Gilmer at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Elijay.

BUFORD BOYS 76, THERRELL 61: Isaiah Williams led the Wolves (4-3) with 20 points and Payton Wehunt added 17 on Saturday in East Point. T.J. Shipes finished with 15 points for Buford, which surged ahead by outscoring Therrell 23-14 in the third period.

UNION COUNTY GIRLS 53, HAYESVILLE (N.C) 41: Rebecka Merritt poured in a game-high 20 points Saturday for the Lady Panthers (6-1) in Blairsville.

Angie Hughes had a double-double for Union County with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Panthers surged to victory by outscoring Hayesville 21-6 in the fourth quarter. Union County visits Andrews (N.C) at 6 p.m. Monday.

HAYESVILLE (N.C.) BOYS 63, UNION COUNTY 31: The Panthers struggled shooting the ball in the first half and trailed 25-6 by halftime Saturday in Blairsville. Rhett McCombs led Union County with 15 points.

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 58, JACKSON COUNTY 45: Led by Kaitlyn Duncan's 18 points, the Lady Leopards cruised to victory Saturday in Jefferson.

Madison Franklin had three 3-pointers and finished with 15 points for Banks County, which visits Stephens County at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Danny Cunningham scored 13 and Victoria Fontana added 11 for the Lady Panthers.

COMMERCE GIRLS 45, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 21: Drea Mathis led the Lady Tigers with 12 points Saturday in Commerce. Lily Mather had seven points and 14 rebounds for Commerce, which visit Lakeview Academy at 6 p.m. Saturday.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 68, OCONEE COUNTY 45 (Friday): Shaquan Cantrell scored a team-high 25 points with nine rebounds for the Red Elephants on Friday.

Caleb Hayman (13), Deshaun Watson (12) and Chase England (11) all scored in double figures for Gainesville.

WALNUT GROVE GIRLS 55, JOHNSON 46 (Friday): Harlee Robson hit five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 19 for the Lady Knights on Friday night.

BANKS COUNTY BOYS 45, FANNIN COUNTY 23 (Friday): Clayton Martin scored 10 points with 10 rebounds on Friday. Adam Hiten also finished with 10 points for the Leopards (3-3, 1-0 Region 8-AA).

Wrestling
NORTH HALL TAKES THIRD AT CREEKVIEW:
Led by a first-place finish by Tyler Kratzer (138 pounds), the Trojans took third place out of 13 schools at the Creekview Invitational on Saturday in Canton.

Alan Kattelmann (195) and Taylor Marett (106) each finished second for North Hall, and Cam Howell (220) placed third. Scott Talley (182), Tyler Goss (126) and Matthew Scavuzzo (145) all finished fourth for the Trojans.

Dylan Brock won at 195 pounds for Chestatee, which took fifth overall with 127 points. Gilmer won the meet with 227 and Lambert placed second with 146.

Austin Donaldson and Cody Etris finished third for the War Eagles. Taylor Wright and Malik Wesley earned fourth place for Chestatee.
