High school scoreboard: Chestatee holds off late Pickens rally

The Chestatee boys basketball team held off a late rally to defeat Pickens 51-50 and earn its first subregion win of the season on Friday in Jasper.

The War Eagles (5-9, 1-2 Region 7A-AAA) were led by Branden Jovaag, who scored 15 points.
Chestatee visits Creekview at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Chestatee girls 50, Pickens 43

Peyton Robertson recorded a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady War Eagles edged Class AAA’s seventh-ranked Pickens to remain unbeaten in subregion play on Friday in Jasper.

Chelsea Wilson added 14 points for Chestatee (8-6, 3-0 Region 7A-AAA).

Chestatee visits Creekview at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

West Hall boys 67, White County 59

Kavon Williams scored 28 points for Class AAA’s fifth-ranked Spartans on Friday in Cleveland.

Ashley Lowery and Luke Crumley each scored 21 points for White County.

West Hall (13-1) visits Habersham Central at 5:30 p.m. today. White County plays host to Fannin County at 7:30 p.m. today.

West Hall girls 40, White County 37

Jayla Moon scored 18 points and was 6-for-7 from the 3-point line for the Lady Spartans on Friday in Cleveland.

Jayme Whitfield led White County with 11 points.

West Hall (5-7) visits Habersham Central at 4 p.m. today. White County (3-10) plays host to Fannin County at 6 p.m. today.

Carrollton girls 44, Gainesville 35

In a battle between two Class AAA ranked opponents, the fifth-ranked Lady Red Elephants fell to the second-ranked Carrollton on Friday in Carrollton.

Jaymee Carnes scored eight points and had 10 rebounds for Gainesville (6-6).

Gainesville visits Flowery Branch at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Creekview girls 47, North Hall 40

McKenna Rushton scored 16 points and Taylor Swoszowski added 13 points for the Lady Trojans on Friday in Canton.

North Hall (5-9, 1-4 7A-AAA) plays host to Gilmer at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Buford girls 66, Blessed Trinity 38

Blanche Alverson and Andraya Carter each scored 13 points as Class AA’s second-ranked Lady Wolves rolled to its third straight region win on Friday in Atlanta.

Alysha Rudnik also scored in double figures for Buford (10-1, 3-0 Region 6-AA), with 10 points. Buford plays host to Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. today.

Blessed Trinity boys 54, Buford 43

After allowing 38 points in the first half, the Wolves held Class AA’s third-ranked Blessed Trinity to 15 points in the second half on Friday in Atlanta.

Zac Lynn scored 11 points for Buford (2-8, 1-3 6-AA).

Buford plays host to Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. today.

Lumpkin County boys 65, Gilmer 30

Austin Tolbert scored 14 points and Devin Dunson and E.J. Young each added 10 points for the Indians on Friday in Ellijay.

Lumpkin County (7-5, 3-1 7A-AAA) visits White County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Gilmer girls 66, Lumpkin County 47

Ashley Brown scored 17 points and had five rebounds and Cara Malone added 12 points for the Lady Indians on Friday in Ellijay.

Kelsie Smith led Lumpkin County (1-11, 0-4 7A-AAA) with eight rebounds.

Lumpkin County visits White County at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Lakeview Academy girls 50, Commerce 23

The Lady Lions stayed undefeated in region play with a dominant win on Friday in Commerce.

Megan Rochester and Maddie Haymore each scored 15 points for Lakeview (8-2, 6-0 8-A). Jaz Greer led Commerce with 11 points.

Lakeview visits Tallulah Falls at 4 p.m. today. Commerce visits Athens Academy at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Lakeview Academy boys 75, Commerce 62

Haughton Carswell scored 19 points for the Lions on Tuesday in Commerce.

Jordan Chastain also scored in double figures for Lakeview (8-6, 4-1 8-A), with 14 points. Ross Biegler added 10 points.

Torrence Wilcher led the Tigers (3-6, 2-2 8-A) with 17 points.

Lakeview visits Tallulah Falls at 5:30 p.m. today. Commerce visits Athens Academy at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Dawson County boys 59, East Jackson 54

With a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter, the Tigers held off East Jackson with a 20-point fourth quarter on Friday in Dawsonville.

Seth Stowers led Dawson County (9-3, 3-0 8B-AA) with 24 points. Dawson County plays host to Sonoraville at 7:30 p.m. today.
