High school scoreboard: Buford wins region opener

The Buford High baseball team opened up region play with a 13-11 win against Class AA’s ninth-ranked Blessed Trinity on Monday at Buford City Park.

The Wolves (6-5, 1-0 Region 6-AA) scored seven runs in the first inning, but were tied 11-11 with Titans in the fifth inning, when Buford’s Adam Schrader hit a solo home run to break the tie.

Hunter Cash pitched the sixth and seventh innings to keep the Wolves on top.

Landon Anderson was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Josh Rudnik had two hits, Michael May had a sac fly and three RBIs and Tyler White added two RBIs.

Buford visits Lovett at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Gainesville 11, White County 1

The Red Elephants scored all their runs in the first three innings and ended the game in fifth on Monday in Cleveland.

Erik Tarnacki was 2-for-4 with five RBIs for Gainesville (7-5, 7-4 Region 7-AAA). Sloan Strickland was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Will Maddox scored three runs and Anderson Loggins added three RBIs for the Red Elephants.

Andy Edmondson threw a complete game and allowed no earned runs for Gainesville.

Gainesville plays host to Central Gwinnett at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday. White County (6-6, 4-6) plays host to Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Flowery Branch 9, Gilmer 6

Matt Pilgrim struck out eight hitters in five innings for the Falcons on Monday at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex in Flowery Branch.

Brad Stone was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Flowery Branch (8-3, 7-3 Region 7-AAA). Logan Conley had two RBIs and Robby Boudreau tripled and had two RBIs for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch visits Johnson at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Lakeview Academy 22, Mount Pisgah 7

The Lions scored 17 runs in the first three innings to pull away early on Monday in Johns Creek.

Brett Armour was 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs while earning the win on the mound for Lakeview (8-1). Tyler Young was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Ross Biegler, Nick Saye and Tyler Ward each had two hits for the Lions.

Lakeview visits Athens Academy at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Lumpkin County 5, Johnson 1

Devin Dunson was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the Indians won their sixth straight on Monday in Dahlonega.

Jonathan Whitehead and Kyle Lovell each had solo home runs for Lumpkin County (11-1, 9-1 Region 7-AAA). Chad Fulton added two hits for the Indians.

Chris Guthrie won his first game of the year pitching for Lumpkin County.

Blake Stacey had four hits and an RBI and Logan Pethel had two hits for Johnson.

Lumpkin County visits White County at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Johnson (1-11, 1-9) plays host to Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Banks County 16, Commerce 6

Trailing 6-5, the Leopards scored 11 runs in the fifth inning to rally for the win Monday in Homer.

Chris Porter was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs while earning the win in relief for Banks County (7-3). Justin Gibbs was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs, four RBIs and three stolen bases. Zach Dale and Kyle Smith each homered and Jeff Smith was 2-for-4 for the Leopards.

Banks County plays host to East Jackson at 5:30 p.m. today. Commerce (6-4) plays host to Towns County at 5:30 p.m. today.

SOCCER

Rabun County boys 3, Lakeview Academy 2

The Lions rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second half to send the game into overtime, but lost after overtime on penalty kicks Monday in Tiger.

Charlie Parks scored twice for Lakeview (4-5, 1-3 Area 15-A/AA). Austin White had two assists. Josh Wilkins led the Lions defensively.

Lakeview visits Dawson County at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Lakeview Academy girls 6, Rabun County 3

Louisa Jacobs scored four goals as the Lady Lions won their first game of the season Monday in Tiger.

Bay Nixon and Emilie Norton also had goals for Lakeivew (1-5, 1-3 Area 15-A/AA). Ivey Godfrey and Lindsey Brock each had two assists and Mary Bendin led on defense for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview Academy visits Dawson County at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

GOLF

West Hall boys 202, Chestatee 204

Kristian Marin shot a 46 and Tanner Teague carded a 50 for the Spartans on Monday at Royal Lakes Golf Course.

Jackson Chandler was the low-medalist of the day, shooting a 45 for the War Eagles. Parker White shot a 49 for Chestatee.

West Hall faces North Hall at 4 p.m. today at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville. Chestatee visits East Hall at 4 p.m. Thursday at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

TENNIS

West Hall girls 5, Lakeview Academy 0


Kacie Smith, Kaylin Walters and Samantha Lingle swept singles in straight sets for the Lady Spartans on Monday in Gainesville.

The team of Chelsea Britt and Alex Wright and the team of Ellie Smith and Kayla Cansler secured the shutout for West Hall (8-4), also in straight sets.

West Hall visits East Hall at 4 p.m. today. Lakeview plays host to Athens Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.

West Hall boys 3, Lakeview Academy 2

Jimmy Kincaid and Tyler Burgamy won in singles, with the team of Kyle Weatherly and Connor McFall clinching the win in doubles for the Spartans on Monday in Gainesville.

Nekhil Patel and the team of Sean Casey and Jackson Beck won for Lakeview.

West Hall (7-5) plays host to East Hall at 4 p.m. today. Lakeview plays host to Athens Christian at 4 p.m. Thursday.
