Nancy Mattox led the Buford volleyball team with nine kills and five aces on the night to lead the Wolves to a win over Chestatee (25-18, 25-11) and Lumpkin County (25-11, 25-19) on Monday night at Chestatee High in Gainesville.

The Wolves’ Elizbeth Darden had six aces and Morgan Nash had six assists.

Buford (10-9, 1-0 Region 4-AA/A) visits Decatur to play the Bulldogs and Avondale in a tri-match at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Aikens takes top spot in 5K

Jackson County’s Brittany Aikens ran a 22-minute, 41-second 5K to take top honors in the six-team race at Banks County High School on Sept. 8 in Homer.

Rachel Pasko was second, Sydney Baird finished sixth, and Mary Collin completed the team score securing the win for the Lady Panthers.

Miguel Guereca and Austin Moser of the Jackson County boys team finished together, both running a 23:21. David Serna finished in 24:22 followed by Thomas Carroll, Zach Knight and Li Her.
