High school scoreboard: Buford volleyball completes undefeated regular season

The Buford volleyball team defeated St. Pius 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 Thursday night at St. Pius.

Buford’s Tatum Shipes had 16 kills, Gabby Curry had 23 digs and Morgan Mitchell had 30 assists.

Buford (33-0, 8-0) next plays in the Area tournament Tuesday and Thursday at Buford.

GAINESVILLE SWEEPS: The Lady Red Elephants defeated Cedar Shoals (25-10, 25-17) and Discovery (25-8, 25-10) Thursday night.

Gainesville’s Tanai Watson had nine kills, Sally Callahan had eight kills, Sydney King had 10 digs and Savannah Roys had 27 assists.

Gainesville (31-11, 8-2) next plays Loganville in the Region 8-AAAAA tournament Thursday at Apalachee.

JEFFERSON SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: The Lady Dragons defeated Jackson County (25-5, 25-9) and East Jackson (25-16, 25-21) Thursday night at home.

Jefferson’s Abby Wood had 12 kills and 19 digs, Grace Haney had 22 assists, Madison Corbett had 20 assists and Olivia Przybysz had 19 digs.

Jefferson (32-5, 8-2) starts play in the Area tournament 5 p.m. Thursday.

WEST HALL SPLITS: The Lady Spartans defeated Johnson (24-26, 25-19, 25-17) and lost to Tallulah Falls (25-18, 25-21) Thursday night.

West Hall senior Mia Mckensey had 20 kills and 16 digs, senior Julia Wunderlich had 12 blocks and eight kills, senior Izzy Diaz had eight blocks and five kills and Shelbie Conde had eight aces and 14 digs, West Hall hosts Putnam County and Providence Christian Tuesday night.

CHESTATEE GETS SWEPT: The Lady War Eagles lost to Gilmer (25-18, 25-12) and Fannin County (25-9, 25-15) Thursday night.

Chestatee’s Emma Dollyhigh had 10 digs, Maddie Woodard had two kills and six digs and Anna McNerney two kills and 11 digs.

Softball

The North Hall softball team swept Chestatee at home Wednesday night in the first round of the Region 8-AAAA playoff series.

The Lady Trojans won Game 1, 12-0 in four innings. Niki Carver went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored.

North Hall scored five runs in the third inning on consecutive hits by Kailee Dyer (2-for-4, two runs scored), Kendyl Chase (2-for-3, RBI), Carver and Carson McCormack (1-for-1, RBI, two runs and a stolen base). North Hall scored seven runs in the fourth inning on doubles from Carver and Ashley Goines (2-for-3, RBI and a run scored).

The Lady Trojans won Game 2, 13-1.

Chase went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, Carver went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base, Kadie Sullens went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored and McCormack went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Carver hit her second inside the park home run, sixth overall, of the year in the fifth inning.

Chase pitched both games, picking up her 14th and 15th wins of the season. She pitched a total of nine innings, allowed seven hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

North Hall (18-7) visits Madison County for the second round playoff series Saturday.

FLOWERY BRANCH SWEEPS LANIER: The Lady Falcons advance to the state tournament for the second straight year with a pair of wins Wednesday night.

Flowery Branch won Game 1, 6-5. Lady Falcons’ senior Maddie Hetzel capped a come from behind win with a walk-off hit in the ninth inning.

Flowery Branch won Game 2, 3-1. Lady Falcons’ sophomore Kara Kight pitched a complete game, and senior Bailey Sims drove in the first run with a double in the top of the fifth inning.

Lanier tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, but Lady Falcons’ senior Hetzel scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh for the win.

Flowery Branch next plays Loganville in a best-of-three series starting Monday.
