The Banks County softball team won at Dawson County 9-3 on Thursday night.
The Lady Leopards scored five runs in the sixth inning and never trailed after the first, scoring four runs on an error and a fielder’s choice.
Banks County’s Abby Baird hit a home run, one of the Lady Leopards’ 11 hits, and pitcher Mallory Parson got the win with nine strikeouts.
BUFORD 9, MADISON COUNTY 1: Lady Wolves’ pitcher Logan Caymol (4-1) went five innings, allowing no runs on two hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
Buford’s Samantha Thomas went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Drew Puckett went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Katie Perkins went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Kelsey Bennett had a run-scoring double.
Buford (19-6, 7-1 Region 8-AAAA) travels to Cambridge for a make-up game at 5:30 p.m. Monday before starting region tournament play Saturday.
The Buford volleyball team defeated Wesleyan (25-12, 25-8) and Centennial (25-13, 25-18) on Thursday night at Wesleyan.
Buford’s Tatum Shipes had 18 kills and 18 digs, Gabby Curry had 15 kills and 18 digs and Morgan Mitchell had 44 assists.
Buford (30-0, 6-0 Region 8-AAAA) hosts North Hall and Stephens County starting at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
LUMPKIN COUNTY 2, WHITE COUNTY 1: The Lady Warriors lost 25-14, 22-25, 25-18 to Lumpkin County Thursday night.
White County’s Eliza Harris had seven kills and six digs, Addie Caudell had seven digs and S.J. Estes had 13 assists.
CHESTATEE GETS SWEPT: The Lady War Eagles lost to Winder-Barrow (25-15, 25-22) and Habersham Central (25-15, 25-15) Thursday night.
Chestatee’s Maddie Woodard had six kills and six digs, Joanna Dickson had eight digs and Katie Jones had three assists.
