West Hall sweeps Pickens and Chestatee

LeNiesha Kearse led West Hall (8-1) with 16 digs, 10 kills, and six blocks in wins over Pickens (25-11, 26-24) and Chestatee (25-12, 25-13) in straight sets on Thursday in Oakwood.

Laykin Herford added 29 assists and six aces for the Lady Spartans, and Carrie Ruis recorded 10 digs, six kills, and five aces.

Krista Walsh had eight kills, and Emily Grainger had seven kills on the night.

West Hall will face Jefferson and Gilmer on Monday in Oakwood.

JEFFERSON LOSES PAIR: Sarah Wood had 20 kills, 11 digs, four blocks, three aces and two assists for the Lady Dragons in losses to Mill Creek (14-25, 14-25) and North Oconee (11-25, 25-21, 17-25) on Thursday in Bogart.

Paige Watson recorded 11 assists, nine digs and two aces for Jefferson (7-3), and Grace Williamson added five assists, four aces, two kills, a dig and a block.

The Lady Dragons return to action as part of a 12-team playdate on Saturday at Jefferson.

GAINESVILLE SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: Kaylin Walden had 29 assists for the Lady Red Elephants (6-2, 1-0 in Region 8-AAAAA) in wins over Johnson (25-18, 31-29) and Cedar Shoals (25-11, 25-8) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Anna Walker had 23 kills for Gainesville, and Grace Miller had 15 service points.

For Johnson, Lindsey Anderson had 11 aces, three kills and two digs in a win over Cedar Shoals in straight sets (25-7, 25-6) and the loss to Gainesville.

Kasey Gravitt had three aces and three assists for the Lady Knights, and Lejavian Ratliff recorded six kills and a pair of digs. Savannah Turk also had two digs and two kills.

Gainesville will play a tri-match with Rockdale County and Oconee County on Tuesday in Watkinsville. Johnson faces Walnut Grove on Tuesday in Loganville.

Softball

Banks County junior Lindsey Elliott led the Lady Leopards at the plate in a 8-0 win against Lakeview, going 2 for 2 with two doubles, a pair of RBIs and a pair of runs scored on Thursday in Homer.

Taylor Kennedy had a two-RBI single for the Lady Leopards.

Savannah Denton pitched three innings and allowed only one hit. She was relieved by Mallory Parson, who pitched two innings with five strikeouts.

Banks County travels to George Walton Academy at 10 a.m. Saturday in Loganville.

LUMPKIN COUNTY 9, CHESTATEE 1: Morgan Wood went 2 for 2 at the plate for the Lady Indians (8-3, 2-0 in Region 8-AAAA) with a single and a double and three RBIs on Thursday in Dahlonega.

Ashley Brown pitched all five innings for Lumpkin County and recorded seven strikeouts.

Lumpkin County faces Rabun County next Monday in Dahlonega.

UNION COUNTY 7, LUMPKIN COUNTY 5 (WEDNESDAY): Courtney Busbee went 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs for Union County on Wednesday in Blairsville.

Hannah Hughes was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Carly Adams was 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Lady Panthers.

Bailey Byers picked up the win for Union County.

The Lady Panthers return to action against Jefferson next Tuesday in Blairsville.
