Kennedy Kotula’s grand slam in the top of the fifth propelled defending Class AAAA state champion Buford to a 10-3 victory Thursday in their season opener against Peachtree Ridge at the Peachtree Ridge Invitational Tournament in Suwanee. The Lions closed the gap on Buford with a two-run fourth inning to cut the lead to 4-3. The Wolves then scored six in the fifth, starting with Kotula’s slam.
