The Union County High baseball team swept a doubleheader with a 10-4 and 16-5 win against Walnut Grove on Saturday in Walton County.
In Game 1, Brady McCarter finished 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored. Chaiz George had a triple, single and three RBIs for the Panthers (11-4, 7-3 Region 8-AA).
Blake Gowder, a senior, earned the win for Union County with eight strikeouts on the mound. In Game 2, Dalton Everett and Gowder each finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs. Coleman Sullivan had three runs scored, and George had a double, triple and an RBI for the Panthers.
Nathaniel Otto had a double, single and four RBIs for the Panthers. Trey Thomas was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs.
Union County visits Fannin County at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
JEFFERSON 6, FANNIN COUNTY 2: Jake Fields and Lucas Redd each went 2-for-2 to lead the Dragons to a win in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Fannin County on Saturday in Blue Ridge.
Fields hit two doubles and Redd hit a home run and had two RBIs for the Dragons. Jamie Sexton struck out six to earn the win.
JEFFERSON 17, FANNIN COUNTY 6: Jake Fields went 3-for-4 with a three-run home run to lead the Dragons to a sweep of Fannin County on Saturday.
Jason Demos went 3-for-4 with four runs scored and Kyle Hardy recorded nine strikeouts to earn the win for Jefferson (13-1, 10- Region 8-AA), which visits North Oconee at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
