Riden wins region title in the 1,600 for Flowery Branch

Led Maurice Riden's first-place finish in the 1,600-meter run and second-place finish in the 800-meter run, the Flowery Branch track and field team scored 69 points to place third in the Region 8-AAAA championships Friday in Loganville.

In the 3,200-meter, Kenny Slavik and Drew Garland placed first and second, respectively, while Austin Eckenroth took first in the pole vault.

Habersham Central's Austin Allen finished second in the shot put.

The top two finishers in each event qualified for the state championships, which will be held May 5-7 at Jefferson High in Jefferson.

Baseball
JOHNSON 6, CHESTATEE 3:
Logan Pethel hit a solo home run, and A.J. Benefield struck out seven in six innings, as the Knights won Monday in Oakwood.

Scott Chewning went 2 for 4 for Chestatee, while Michael Pinson added a double and two RBIs on 1-for-3 hitting.

Johnson visits Stephens County, and Chestatee hosts Lanier, at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN GIRLS 2, TRINITY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 2:
Jordan Ball and Nicole Ball each scored for the Lady Chargers in the draw Monday at Allen Creek.

With the tie, North Georgia's regular season is now complete.

TRINITY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BOYS 5, NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN 2: Clay Cox and Sean Myer scored in the loss Monday at Allen Creek. Each goal came off of a throw in from Dylan Boonstra. With the loss, The Chargers' regular season is now complete.
