Sosebee strikes out 13 against Oconee County

White County senior David Sosebee earned his eighth win of the season by striking out 13 batters and allowing no walks on Wednesday in a 3-1 win against Oconee County in Cleveland.

Sosebee and Luke Crumley each had an RBI double for White County (18-3, 17-3 Region 8-AAA), and Montana Saine had a double and drove in a run for the Warriors, who host Monroe Area at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

GAINESVILLE 6, JOHNSON 2: Logan Pethel led the Knights (10-13, 9-12 Region 8-AAA) with a two-run home run at Ivey-Watson Field.

David Gonzalez earned the win for the Red Elephants (18-4, 16-4), who host Stephens County at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

NORTH HALL 11, CHESTATEE 1: Chris Stevens pitched a complete game and allowed only four hits Wednesday for the Trojans (18-4, 17-3 Region 8-AAA) at Chestatee. He also drove in three runs at the plate.

Jesse Strickland, Griffin Olson and Wade Phillips each added two RBIs for North Hall, and Andrew Smith had two hits and a double.

Scott Chewning had two hits and scored the only run for the War Eagles (6-16, 6-14). North Hall hosts Walnut Grove at 5:55 p.m. Friday at Jody Davis Field. Chestatee visits Oconee County at 5:55 p.m. Friday in Watkinsville.

JACKSON COUNTY 7, OGLETHORPE COUNTY 3: Tony Holton had a two-run home run for the Panthers (9-13) in the consolation round of the Region 8-AA tournament Wednesday in Jefferson.

Kelly Moates added a double and RBI for Jackson County, and Andy Williams added two hits and an RBI. Jackson County visits East Hall at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

BUFORD GIRLS 2, JOHNSON 2:
Katie Garth and Ceely Coker each scored a goal for the Lady Wolves (11-5-1) in their final game of the season. Jessi Vaverka provided both assists for Buford.

Tennis
GAINESVILLE BOYS 4, SHAW 1: The Red Elephants swept doubles play with wins from Austinn Miller/Jake Maddox and Alexander Davis/Alec Zais in the opening round of the Class AAA state playoffs Tuesday in Columbus.

Ryan Joiner won at No. 1 singles for Gainesville, which hosts St. Pius X at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Longwood Park.


LAGRANGE BOYS 3, WEST HALL 2: The Spartans won singles matches from Max Wilson and Connor McFall in the opening round of the Class AAA state playoffs on Tuesday in LaGrange. With the loss, West Hall's season is now complete.
