When: 7:30 tonight

Where: Avondale Stadium, Avondale Estates

Coaches: Buford, Jess Simpson; Clarkston, Gary Wansley

Records: Buford (7-0, 1-0 Region 6A-AA); Clarkston (1-4, 0-0)

Key players: Buford, RB/LB Andre Johnson (5-11, 220 Sr.), LB Dillon Lee (6-5, 240 Sr.), TE/DE Kurt Freitag (6-5, 241) Sr.). Clarkston, RB/DB Cepeda Glover (5-9, 160 Sr.), LB Antonio Kohn (5-10, 180 Sr.) DE Derrick Linkhorn (6-3, 175 Sr.)

Outlook: It’s still the first week in October and Buford is already entering the final stretch of its regular season. After tonight’s game, the top-ranked Wolves have only one game — against No. 3 Greater Atlanta Christian on Oct. 21 — before the region play-in games on Nov. 5.

On paper, the Angoras pose little more than a tune-up for the four-time defending Class AA champs. Buford enters as winners of 20 straight games, outscoring opponents by an average of 45-5 this season.

While the offense, led by a balanced running game, has done its part, the defense is the standout unit for Buford.

Spearheaded by Lee and a handful of high-level Division-I recruits, the Wolves defense has 24 sacks, 27 other tackles for loss, 62 quarterback pressures and has scored five defensive touchdowns.

Clarkston has scored only two touchdowns (one offense and one defense) all year, while giving up more than 41 points per game during a four-game slide since defeating Therrell, 7-6, in the season opener. Kohn leads the Angora defense with 8.8 tackles per game.

Buford won last year, 47-0, in only the third meeting between the two schools. Clarkston won the first two match-ups in 1952 and ’53, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.

Prediction: BUFORD. The Wolves look like the superior team in every aspect.
