UPDATE, 6:52 p.m Thursday.: Gordon Higgins, the director for community relations and athletics for Hall County Schools, confirmed that all area high school games and practices scheduled for Friday will be postponed due to expected winter weather.

Also, Billy Kirk, the director of athletics and activites for Gainesville City Schools, said Thursday that Gainesville's basketball teams will not play on Friday.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal announced on Thursday that Hall County had been added to the state of emergency list, which now includes 21 counties.

"It's the safety of the student-athletes that is most important," said Kirk. "The students, parents, teachers and staff. Now that the schools are closed, I don't think we'll be playing any basketball or wrestling this weekend."
