High school basketball: Chestatee girls open Region 7-4A tournament with win

The Chestatee girls basketball team knocked off Denmark on Tuesday, 58-29, to advance to the semifinals of the Region 7-4A tournament and clinch a spot in the Class 4A state playoffs. 

Maggie McNair led the way for the Lady War Eagles with 13 points, while Lexi Strickland added 10. 

Up next, Chestatee faces Marist at 7 p.m. Thursday in Flowery Branch.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 68, BLESSED TRINITY 35: Ashlee Locke scored 25 for the Lady Falcons, and Shaina Kriews contributed 20 to help the team to a victory in the first round of the Region 7-4A tournament. The win earns Flowery Branch a spot in the Class 4A state playoffs. 

Up next, the Lady Falcons will take on the winner of White County and West Hall in the Region 7-4A tournament semifinals on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Flowery Branch.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY BOYS 61, HEBRON CHRISTIAN 43: The Lions outscored Hebron Christian 19-6 in the first quarter to run away with the dominant victory in the first round of the Region 8-A tournament. Declan Weidner led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds, and Conley Millwood added 15 points with eight boards.

CLARKE CENTRAL BOYS 71, JOHNSON 31: Buddha Johnson and Jesse Harbin each scored 8 points for the Knights in the first round of the Region 8-5A tournament on Tuesday. With the loss, Johnson’s season is now finished. 

KILLIAN HILL CHRISTIAN BOYS 46, LANIER CHRISTIAN 39: Trevin Last scored 16 points to lead the Lightning in the loss.
