The Gainesville City School Board approved Brenda Hill-Gilmore on Monday as the Lady Red Elephants new basketball coach.

Hill-Gilmore will be familiar to longtime Hall County basketball fans. She starred as a player at East Hall High before going on to play at Auburn and North Georgia College & State University. She most recently served as the head coach at Winder-Barrow High.

Last season, the Lady Bulldoggs finished 7-17, and the program has not reached the postseason since 1994.

She'll find a team much more steeped in success at Gainesville. This season, the Lady Red Elephants missed the playoffs for the first time since 1997 and won four state championships under previous coach Mason Hill, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Brenda Hill-Gilmore spent six seasons an assistant coach at Gainesville and her daughter, Tasha Humphrey, starred for the Lady Red Elephants. Hill-Gilmore was also an assistant for five seasons at the University of Georgia, where Humphrey eventually attended and starred for four years.
