Gainesville’s Rick Howard and Mark Wade were announced Monday as the Region 8-AAA boys and girls soccer Coaches of the Year, respectively. The men’s team finished its regular season as Region 8-AAA champions and are currently ranked fourth in Class AAA. After defeating Columbus on Friday night, the Red Elephants (18-1-1) advanced to the state semifinals and will host No. 1 St. Pius X (17-2-1) at 8 tonight.
