Gainesville High senior Spencer Ralston shot a blistering 6-under par on the back nine Monday to finish tied for second in the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier in Athens.

Ralston’s scores of 74 and 65 during the two-day, 36-hole event were enough to tie David Mackey as runner-up with a 139 at the University of Georgia course. Will Chandler, from Atlanta, won with a 137.

With the top-four finish, Ralston will play for the third straight U.S. Junior Championship. This year’s event will start July 20 at the Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, S.C.

Ralston’s final round was highlighted with an eagle on the par-4 14th. He also birdied five holes on the last half of his round. He was even par on the front nine holes.
