Gainesville volleyball dropped two matches in the area tournament on Saturday and qualified for the Class AAAAAA State Tournament after earning the third seed for Area 8-AAAAAA. The Lady Red Elephants dropped its first match to Habersham Central (26-24, 18-25, 22-25) in the winner’s bracket. Then, Gainesville fell to eventual champion Winder-Barrow (23-25, 25-11, 21-25). Sydney King had 54 digs, five assists and two aces for Gainesville on the day.
