Gainesville boys golf wins at The Invite
Ralston, Bishop tie for 2nd individually in rain-shortened event

The Gainesville High boys golf team shot a combined 157 over a rain-shortened nine holes to capture the team title at The Invite on Saturday at the Chattahoochee Golf Club.

The Red Elephants finished with a two-day team total of 449 to finish nine strokes ahead of second-place Brookstone. Columbus finished third (462), Westminster fourth (466) and Cambridge fifth (468).

Individually, Gainesville’s Spencer Ralston and Jackson Bishop finished tied for second with St. Pius X’s Garrett Bernhardt at 110, one shot behind eventual champion Charlie Flowers of Columbus (109). 

Gainesville’s Grant Lasseter was tied for fifth overall at 111.

Ralston shot a 69 over 18 holes Friday, then carded a 41 in the rain over the final nine holes. After a 73 in the first round, Bishop carded a 37 over the final nine holes.

Also for Gainesville, Nathan Williams and Pep Brown were tied for 13th with a two-day total of 116.  Lawson King finished 15th for Gainesville with a 117.

For North Hall, Hunter Young finished with a 120 after carding a 43 during the final round. Clay Hoffman had a two-day total of 123 for the Trojans.

North Hall finished in seventh place with a two-day total of 508.

Gainesville returns to action on May 20 when it plays for the Class AAAAA state title at the Pine Lakes Course in Jekyll Island.
