Football scoreboard: No. 1 Wolves shut down Thomson, 29-0

The Buford High football team held the Thomson to minus-1 yard of offense in the second half and 71 for the game en route to a 29-0 victory on Friday at The Brickyard in Thomson.

Buford (7-0, 4-0 Region 6-AA) running back Cody Getz scored the only points in the first half with a touchdown run from three yards out early in the second quarter.

Jessel Curry, Michael May, and Storm Johnson each had a touchdown for Class AA's No. 1 ranked Wolves, and Daniel Villafuerte added a 29-yard field goal.

Buford plays host to Blessed Trinity at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in at Tom Riden Stadium in Buford.

North Oconee 16, Dawson County 7
The Titans picked up their fourth consecutive win Friday in Dawsonville. North Oconee (6-1, 5-1 Region 8-AA) kicker James Pinkerton made three field goals to give the Titans a 9-0 lead. Following a Dawson County touchdown, North Oconee's Brandon Whitlock returned the kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. The Titans defense picked off two passes in the last three minutes to secure the win.

North Oconee plays host to East Jackson at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Bogart. Dawson County visits Union County at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Blairsville.

Fannin County 40, Riverside 28
Eagles quarterback Lucas Bersin passed for 237 yards and three touchdowns on Friday in Blue Ridge,
Julian Suber carried the ball 27 times for 203 yards and had a kickoff return for a touchdown for Riverside Military (4-3, 3-3 Region 8-AA), and Adam Stokes added three receptions for 95 yards for the Eagles.

The Riverside defense was led by Diego Osegueda-Weiner with nine tackles and a fumble recovery, Kurt McGarry had eight tackles, and Aaron Gambrah finished with six tackles and a fumble recovery.
Riverside plays host to Oglethorpe County at 7:30 p.m. next Friday at Maginnis Field in Gainesville.

Habersham Central 33, Monroe Area 14
Raiders running back Kevin Ellison tied Cliff Coleman (1996) for the school record with five rushing touchdowns on Friday in Mount Airy. Ellison finished the game with 156 total rushing yards.

David Griffin added 86 yards on the ground for Habersham Central (4-4, 4-4 Region 8-AAAA). Raiders quarterback completed 50 percent of his passes for 147 yard. Zach Mayfield was Habersham Central's leading receiver with five catches for 74 yards.

Habersham Central visits Rockdale County at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Conyers.

Wesleyan 33, Commerce 7
Deon Orsborne scored the lone touchdown for the Tigers Friday in Commerce, scoring from 51 yards out in the second quarter. Orsborne and Phillip Edwards combined to rush for 96 yards for Commerce (2-5. 1-3 Region 8-A).

Wesleyan was led by Kyle Karempellis with 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Connor Welton passed for 182 yards.

Commerce visits Lakeview at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Gainesville.

Eastside 50, Jackson County 0
Running the ball with ease, Eastside mounted more than 400 total yards of offense as it rolled the Jackson County Panthers 50-0.

"They were dedicated to playing for homecoming tonight," Eastside (6-1, 3-1 Region 8-AAA) coach Rick Hurst said. "We wanted to play with a purpose and with emotion and I think we accomplished it."

Eastside's Gitt Aiken had 83 yards and three touchdowns on the night.

Quarterback Justin Wray contributed to the rout with a 55-yard touchdown pass to Antarius Terrell.
The Eagles' defense had two interceptions on the night and held Jackson County (1-5, 0-4) to just two first downs in the game.

Jackson County visits Elbert County at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Elberton.

North Georgia Christian 59, Youth Academy 0
Tyler Harney led the Chargers with three touchdowns, one of which was a 60-yard punt return. Aaron Willis rushed for 61 yards and a pair of touchdowns for North Georgia Christian (4-5). James Athelstone scored off of a fumble recovery.

North Georgia Christian's season is complete.
