Football scoreboard: Banks County clinches playoff berth

Banks County clinched its first playoff berth since 1997 with a 34-13 win over Union County on Friday night.

Justin Beasley led the Leopards (6-4, 6-3 Region 8-AA) with 321 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Beasley now has a total of 2,043 yards on the season.

The Banks County defense had six interceptions in the game. Chase Armour and Clay Frink each returned interceptions for touchdowns.

The Leopards visit the No. 1 seed from Region 7B-AA, Calhoun, at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Calhoun in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.

Commerce 22, Prince Avenue Christian 12
The Tigers scored 22 unanswered points to defeat the Wolverines on Friday in Bogart. The win gives Commerce the No. 3 seed out of Region 8-A going into the next week's first round of the state playoffs.

The Tigers will visit the No. 2 seed from Region 7-A Wilkinson County. Play begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Deon Orsborne led Commerce (5-5, 4-2 Region 8-A) with 154 yards rushing.

Javon Womack had 59 yards rushing and Jon Cash added 55 for the Tigers. Cash also had a 50-yard kickoff return in the second quarter which set up Commerce's first score.

Jefferson 48, East Jackson 0
The Dragons defense allowed just 92 yards of offense by the Eagles as Jefferson (10-0, 9-0 Region 8-AA) closed out its undefeated regular season Friday in Commerce.

The defense for the Dragons was led by Lucas Redd with 16 tackles and Jay Fowler with 14. Tab Martin and Zach Crosby each had an interception for Jefferson.

Darius Minor completed 10 passes for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Dragons. Virgil Appleby had one receiving touchdown and a pair of rushing touchdowns for Jefferson. Tab Martin carried the ball twice, scoring on both.

Jefferson plays host to the No. 4 seed from Region 7A-AA, Coosa at 7:30 p.m. next Friday in Jefferson in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.

Pickens 9, East Hall 7
The Vikings missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired Friday in Jasper.
Both team's seasons are now complete.

Stephens County 35, Jackson County 0
The Indians (8-2, 6-1 Region 8-AAA) locked up the No. 2 seed in Region 8-AAA, and will play host to Flowery Branch (8-2, 4-1) next Friday in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs at The Reservation in Toccoa. It's a re-match of the Week 1 matchup which Stephens County won 28-25.

Jackson County's season is now complete.

Athens Christian 35, Lakeview Academy 6
The Lions' (1-7, 0-6 Region 8-A) season is now complete.
