East Hall’s furious fourth-quarter rally fell short as West Hall hung on for a 51-39 win in the first round of the Lanierland tournament Wednesday at North Hall High School.

Down 41-22 entering the final period, the Lady Vikings reeled off an 11-0 run in only 56 seconds. But East Hall’s 3-point sharpshooting eventually dwindled, and the Lady Spartans made just enough free throws down the stretch to clinch the win.

Vikings senior Kylah Mize led all scorers with 15 points and pulled down four rebounds. Anna McKendree paced West Hall with 14 points, while Macy Passmore grabbed six boards.

The No. 7 seed Lady Spartans will face No. 3 seed Gainesville in the semifinals at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, which will be held at Gainesville High. No. 2 seed East Hall will take on No. 6 seed Chestatee at 9:30 a.m.
