Buford swept the Class AA defending champion Calhoun Yellow Jackets at home on Wednesday.
The Wolves won Game 1, 12-1 in five innings and Game 2, 15-3.
The Wolves (25-3), top seed from Region 6-AA, advance to the quartefinals, where they’ll play Pierce County (Region 2, 3 seed) in a best-of-three series that begins Tuesday.
“It was a good two wins,” Buford coach Tony Wolfe said. “I was proud of the kids. They beat a good Calhoun team.”
In Game 1, the Wolves led 7-0 after two innings and never looked back.
“That kind of set the tone for the series,” Wolfe said.
Sam Clay earned the win, allowing one run on three hits while striking out nine in the complete game effort.
Calhoun loaded the bases in the first inning of Game 2, but starter Jake Burnett (seven innings, 11 strikeouts, three runs, eight hits), got out of the jam unscathed.
Leading 8-3, the Wolves poured on seven runs in the seventh to put Calhoun away for good.
For the series, the Wolves were led by Brian Clark (5-for-6), Tyler White (4-for-10, three RBIs) and Mason Gentry (4-for-8, HR, seven RBIs).
