Mackenzie Darrah led Buford on offense with 13 points as the Lady Wolves defeated Elbert County 59-25 in the second round of the Class AAA girls state playoffs on Friday in Buford.
“She led us in scoring, but all of our kids played well,” Lady Wolves coach Gene Durden said. “We started off real fast and controlled the ball inside the paint to score.”
Kristina Nelson was the only other Buford player in double-digits with 10 points in the game.
Durden said his Lady Wolves also did a great job executing at half-court and were able to play strong defense to hold off the Lady Blue Devils.
Buford will play St. Pius X in the state quarterfinals either Tuesday or Wednesday. Game time is still to be determined.
Jaimera Hill led Elbert County with nine points.
HERITAGE ACADEMY GIRLS 46, COVENANT CHRISTIAN 36: Audrey Weiner led the Lady Crusaders with 15 points in the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama Class 1-A semifinals on Friday in Columbus.
Elizabeth Walters added 12 points for Heritage Academy, and Anna Staub recorded 11.
The Lady Crusaders face Horizon Christian in the Class 1-A finals at 4 p.m. today in Columbus.
