Banks County boys, Dawson County girls win at 7-AAA cross country meet

Banks County’s individual runners dominated the Region 7-AAA cross country championships on Tuesday in Homer.

The Leopards’ Jose Diaz won the boys event, and teammate Beau Rush placed second.

Makayla Hewell won the girls event for Banks County.

In the boys’ race, Dawson County’s Jacob Poston placed third, Lumpkin County’s Tristin Duckworth took fourth, and Enrique Ochoa of East Hall came in third.

On the girls’ side, Fannin County’s Kaelyn Deal followed in second behind Hewell, Dawson County’s Marley Hamby was third, Celeste Norton of Lumpkin County was fourth, and Fannin County’s Hailey Cheves took fifth.

The Leopards’ boys team won the region championship, West Hall placed second, Dawson County was third, and Lumpkin County was fourth.

Dawson County’s girls took the region title, Fannin County was second, Banks County placed third, and Lumpkin County came in fourth. All four teams in each division will compete in the Class AAA state championship on Nov. 8 in Carrollton.
