The Gainesville volleyball team started off the 2019 season on a high note, sweeping a tri-match Thursday night against Alcovy and Lakeview Academy. The Lady Red Elephants (2-0) started off with a 25-6, 25-4 domination of Alcovy before finishing off the night with a 25-11, 25-15 win over the Lady Lions. 

Isabella Appling led the team with five aces, seven kills and two digs. Camille Calkins added six kills and three aces, while Camille Holcomb had 10 assists. Isabella Garrish contributed 18 assists and seven aces. 

Gainesville will play a tri-match with North Forsyth at North Hall on Tuesday. 

West Hall goes 2-1: The Lady Spartans began the night by picking up a forfeit from Woodland and beating Lumpkin County 22-25, 25-21, 15-10, but lost 25-23, 19-25, 15-9 to North Forsyth. 

Cadie Shirley had 18 kills, 14 digs and two aces to lead the team on the night, while Kinsey Wilson added 14 digs and 12 kills. 

West Hall will travel to take on Jefferson on Friday at 7 p.m.

Chestatee sweeps tri-match: The Lady War Eagles took down both Stephens County (25-22, 25-22) and Clarke Central (25-11, 25-17) in a Thursday night tri-match to start their season 2-0.

Junior Logan Wiggins led the offense for Chestatee, reaching double-digit kills in each of the team’s two matches.
