High school scoreboard: Wilson totals 11 kills as West Hall High volleyball clinches playoff berth

The West Hall High volleyball team secured its spot in the Class 4A state playoffs as the No. 3 seed after defeating Chestatee (25-17, 25-27, 25-23) in three sets on Thursday. 

Kinsey Wilson totaled 11 kills for the Lady Spartans. Ashley Alverson added six blocks for West Hall’s defense, while teammate Reagan Horton had 20 digs. India Strickland contributed 13 assists for the Lady Spartans.

West Hall plays Thursday in the first round.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY CLINCHES PLAYOFF BERTH: Lakeview Academy defeated Providence (25-21, 25-21) and Tallulah Falls (25-21, 25-15) before falling to Athens Academy (11-25, 22-25) in the Area 8-A Tournament. As a result, the Lady Lions earned the No. 3 seed in the Class A state playoffs and play in the first round on Thursday. 

Garrett Green led the Lady Lions’ attack with 22 kills, two aces and five blocks. Sadie Thrailkill added 18 kills, 31 digs with three aces for the Lady Lions, while teammate Madison Dowdy added 14 kills and 16 digs. Gracie Caudell contributed 25 assists, four kills and 10 digs for Lakeview Academy.

EAST HALL PLAYOFF BOUND: Niyah Rucker led the Lady Vikings’ attack with 19 kills, five blocks, two digs and two aces in a win against Dawson County (25-16, 25-22) and loss to Greater Atlanta Christian (18-25, 22-25). Tessa Rider added 11 kills, 14 digs, three aces and an assist for the Lady Vikings. East Hall’s Savannah Thellman contributed 31 assists, seven digs and three aces. 

The Lady Vikings play their opening round match of the Class 3A state playoffs as the No. 3 seed, facing Redan High on Wednesday in Stone Mountain.


SOFTBALL

Logan Caymol led Buford to its sixth region title, totaling eight strikeouts in the Lady Wolves’ 10-0 shutout of Walnut Grove in the Region 8-5A title game Thursday night. 

Gabby Benson had three RBI for the Lady Wolves. Mariah Wicker drove in two runs for Buford, while teammate Arielle Oda went 2 for 2 with a stolen base.

Buford hosts the first round of Class 5-A state playoffs on Thursday, opponent to be determined.
