The Chestatee High softball team used a six-run fifth inning to turn a tight game into an 8-2 win against White County High on Thursday.
Beth Eddins went 3 for 3 with a pair of runs scored for the Lady War Eagles, and teammate Cheyenne Roper drove in two runs on two hits. Chestatee’s Hannah Jones collected three RBIs, while Katilyn Babb and Danielle Ortego each had run-scoring hits.
Isabel Long pitched four innings of one-run ball for the Lady War Eagles before Eddins took over and threw five strikeouts over the final three frames.
Jessica Morgan clobbered two solo home runs for White County, part of a 4 for 4 day at the plate.
EAST HALL RALLIES PAST LUMPKIN COUNTY: Trailing by a run in the fifth inning, East Hall High’s offense erupted down the stretch to claim a 7-1 win against Region 7-3A opponent Lumpkin County High on Thursday.
Steffanie Redmon’s two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth put the Lady Vikings ahead before a five-run sixth inning cemented the victory. East Hall plated runs thanks to doubles by Redmon and Gracie Smith, along with a pair of errors.
Macy Banks picked up the win, allowing just one run on seven hits while striking out nine for the Lady Vikings. She and Redmon produced multi-hit games for East Hall, while Victoria Mounce led the Lady Indians at the plate by going 2 for 3.
BUFORD EDGES NORTH GWINNETT: Buford High avenged Tuesday’s loss to reigning Class 7A champion North Gwinnett High with a 5-3 victory Thursday in Suwanee.
Arielle Oda led off the game with an inside-the-park home run for the Lady Wolves (10-2), and she finished with three RBIs. Janelle Mathis went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, while teammate Kelsey Bennett gave Buford some breathing room with a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.
Ansleigh Hollifield improved to 3-0 this season with the win, giving up only one earned run across five innings. Logan Caymol retired all six batters she faced in relief, half via strikeout, to pick up the save.
The Lady Wolves open Region 8-5A play next Thursday with a trip to Loganville High.
North Hall High swept Class 7A foes Peachtree Ridge High (25-19, 25-17) and Forsyth Central High (25-10, 25-5) in convincing fashion Thursday in Cumming.
Lily Paschall led the way for the Lady Trojans with 30 assists, 11 digs, four aces and three kills. North Hall’s Melissa DeVerter posted 13 kills, six blocks and three digs, while teammate Autumn Tucker racked up 11 digs with nine kills.
Several other Lady Trojans contributed to the winning effort: Lena Strickland had 20 digs, Maci Gillespie recorded eight digs, Madison Brock totaled five kills and Caroline Brady and Savannah Miller each provided three kills.
North Hall returns to action in the Hall County Championship on Saturday at Lakeview Academy in Gainesville.
JOHNSON SWEPT IN TRI-MATCH: Johnson High fell to 4-6 this season with losses to Lakeview Academy (25-15, 20-25, 25-21) and Gainesville High (30-25, 25-14, 25-12) on Thursday.
Grace Eidson paced the Lady Knights with 18 assists, 14 digs, 10 kills and four aces. Alivia Farley notched 14 assists, 11 digs and seven kills for Johnson, while teammate Emma Hernandez pitched in with 11 kills and eight blocks.
Emily Pena registered 11 digs for the Lady Knights, who will play at the Hall County Championship on Saturday.
FLOWERY BRANCH SPLITS TRI-MATCH: Flowery Branch lost a tight match against Brookwood High (25-18, 21-25, 25-23) before recovering to beat Collins Hill (18-25, 25-12, 25-21) on Thursday in Suwanee.
In the opening match, sophomore outside hitter Katie Williams had 11 kills for the Lady Falcons (8-2), who also received 14 kills from senior middle blocker Anna Marshall. Flowery Branch junior setters Oriah Ware and Ansley McLean produced 24 and eight assists, respectively.
Senior setter Ashlyn Gibeau contributed 15 assists and two aces in the win against Collins Hill. Junior outside hitter Phoebe Hammond recorded seven kills and two aces for the Lady Falcons, while teammate Sierra Lutz, a sophomore middle blocker, had six kills.
Flowery Branch hosts Habersham Central on Tuesday.
WEST HALL GOES 1-1 IN TRI-MATCH: West Hall split its tri-match with a loss against Jefferson (25-16, 17-25, 16-25) and win against Walnut Grove (25-15, 25-22)
India Strickland had 10 assists in the opening match, while Lady Spartans teammate Ruby Guerrero notched seven aces. Kinsey Wilson recorded four kills and three blocks for West Hall (7-11).
Guerrero provided four aces, Cadie Shirley registered eight kills and Reagan Horton added seven digs in the Lady Spartans' win against Walnut Grove. West Hall will participate in the Hall County Championship on Saturday.
