High school scoreboard: Buford softball takes final two games at Hawk/Bulldog tournament
The Buford High softball program beat Lowndes County, 14-1, and Harris County, 8-1, Saturday at North Gwinnett High to finish the Hawk/Bulldog Tournament with a 4-0 mark for the weekend.

In the opener against Lowndes, Kelsey Bennett knocked a pair of homers and drove in three runs for the Lady Wolves. Mariah Wicker connected on a three-run home run for Buford. Also for the Lady Wolves, Janelle Mathis went 2 for 3 with four RBIs, while Katie Perkins was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs.

From the pitching circle, senior Logan Caymol allowed four hits and an earned run over four innings.

In the final game of the tournament, Buford’s Payton Shells threw five innings and gave up two hits to earn the win in the pitching circle.

At the plate, Arielle Oda was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Bennett chipped in a double with three walks and drove in two runs.

On Tuesday, Buford visits defending Class 7A champion North Gwinnett at 5:55 p.m. in Suwanee.
