High school scoreboard: Banks throw shutout for East Hall softball team

East Hall’s Macy Banks threw a shutout, allowing six hits while collecting four strikeouts from the circle in a 2-0 win against North Hall on Tuesday. Peyton Turner drove in a run for East Hall.

East Hall visits Dawson County at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 6 at Dawsonville.


Ellie Luciani led the Flowery Branch charge with 20 digs and three assists in a three-set win against Habersham Central (25-11, 25-17, 25-17) on Tuesday. Phoebe Hammond racked up eight kills, three aces, two assists and a block for the Lady Falcons. Ashley Scott totaled five kills, four assist and 16 digs for Flowery Branch (9-2). Oriah Ware finished the night with 22 assists, an ace and a kill for the Lady Falcons.

Flowery Branch hosts Chestatee at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

NORTH HALL 3, GAINESVILLE 0: Melissa DeVerter  racked  up 13 kills, five blocks and nine digs in North Hall’s win against Gainesville (19-25, 25-12, 25-16). Autumn Tucker had 12 kills with seven digs for the Lady Trojans, while teammate Lily Paschall recorded 30 assists, four aces, four kills and 11 digs.

For the Lady Red Elephants, Savannah Roys had nine kills, two blocks, 11 assists and 23 digs. Ansley Turner finished the night with seven kills with nine assists for Gainesville, while teammate Anna Wylie contributed five kills and two blocks.

Gainesville faces Clarke Central in a tri-match with Oconee County on Thursday in Watkinsville.

North Hall hosts Union County and Jefferson for a tri-match on Tuesday in Gainesville.


The Gainesville boys and White County girls were team winners at the War Eagle Invitational on Tuesday in Gainesville. Chestatee’s Edwin Amaya won the boys race (16 minutes, 45 seconds), while Dawson County’s Frankie Muldoon took first in the girls’ race (19:36). Jaelen Alexander paced the Lady Warriors with a second-place finish and a time of 19:38. In the boys’ race, North Hall earned second, Dawson County placed third and White County was fourth.

In the girls’ race, Dawson County finished in second place, Hart County was third pace and North Hall finished fourth.
