Gainesville vs. Lanier

Where: City Park Stadium, Gainesville

Records: Gainesville (4-5, 3-1 Region 8-6A); Lanier (5-4, 2-2)

What to know: Gainesville can clinch the region’s No. 2 seed and home-field advantage in the first round of the playoffs with a win and a Winder-Barrow loss against Dacula. The worst case scenario for the Red Elephants, who have won three of their last four games, is a fourth-place finish, which would occur if both they and Dacula fall tonight. Either way, Gainesville will participate in the playoffs for the 18th straight season.

Dawson County vs. Greater Atlanta Christian

Where: Spartan Sports Complex, Norcross

Records: Dawson County (7-2, 5-0 Region 7-3A); No. 2 Greater Atlanta Christian (8-1, 5-0)

What to know: Last week, Dawson County quarterback Coey Watson registered his 100th career touchdown as the Tigers defeated region foe Lumpkin County 42-21 in Dahlonega. Greater Atlanta Christian had a bye last week, picking up its fifth region win of the season the prior week by defeating North Hall 56-6. With both the Spartans and the Tigers sporting an unblemished region record, the winner of tonight’s contest will claim the region title and a No. 1 playoff seed. Both teams, however, have already locked up a playoff berth and will host a first-round postseason game regardless of the outcome.

West Hall vs. Blessed Trinity

Where: Spartan Field, Oakwood

Records: West Hall (5-4, 1-2 Region 7-4A); No. 8 Blessed Trinity (7-2, 2-1)

What to know: Both teams have locked up a playoff berth. West Hall, currently fourth in the region standings, can climb to third place with a win tonight. These two programs played each other for the first time ever last season, with the Titans defeating the Spartans 34-13.

White County vs. Marist

Where: White County Stadium, Cleveland

Records: White County (7-2, 2-1 Region 7-4A); No. 2 Marist (9-0, 3-0)

What to know: A year after winning just one game, White County can capture the region title tonight with a victory against Marist and a Blessed Trinity loss to West Hall. A loss, though, would leave the Warriors with the No. 3 seed and a road game to open the playoffs.

East Hall vs. Fannin County

Where: Rebel Stadium, Blue Ridge

Records: East Hall (5-4, 2-3 Region 7-3A); Fannin County (2-7, 0-5)

What to know: East Hall lost to North Hall 31-20 last week at East Hall Stadium in Gainesville, while Fannin County enters the game after a 37-14 loss to Union County last week. East Hall has already locked up a playoff berth and will finish fourth in region play in the regular season. Fannin County, which East Hall defeated 71-58 last season, is out of playoff contention.

Habersham Central vs. Apalachee

Where: R. Harold Harrison Stadium, Bethlehem

Records: Habersham Central (1-8, 0-4 Region 8-6A); Apalachee (1-8, 0-4)

What to know: All but one of the Raiders’ losses have come by a touchdown or less, consequently ruining their chances for a playoff run this season. Both teams are out of postseason contention.

Johnson vs. Loganville

Where: Red Devil Stadium, Loganville

Records: Johnson (0-9, 0-5 Region 8-5A); Loganville (1-8, 1-4)

What to know: Both teams are out of playoff contention. Loganville is 5-2 all-time against Johnson, and the Knights are looking to get their first win against the Red Devils since 1996, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association.

Lakeview Academy vs. Riverside Military Academy

Where: Maginnis Field, Gainesville

Records: Lakeview Academy (2-7, 1-7 Region 8-A); Riverside Military Academy (1-8, 0-8)

What to know: Both teams will miss the playoffs this season. Riverside beat the Lions 24-14 last season, which was the first time these teams met.

Lumpkin County vs. Union County

Where: The Burial Grounds, Dahlonega

Records: Lumpkin County (1-8, 1-4 Region 7-3A); Union County (5-4, 1-4)

What to know: Both teams are out of playoff contention. The Panthers lead the series against the Indians 23-15-1. The last time Lumpkin County defeated Union County was a 28-13 win in 2011.
