High school baseball playoff scoreboard: Buford sweeps Rome to advance to second round

The Buford High baseball team swept Rome with wins of 9-0 and 12-0 on Friday in Buford to advance to the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

With the win, the second-seeded Wolves will face No. 1 seed Decatur on Wednesday Decatur. 

Ramsey David blasted a home run and had four RBIs while racking up 10 strikeouts from the mound for Buford in Game 1. Noah Ledford drove in two runs for Buford, while teammates Griffin Price and Reese McIntyre contributed an RBI apiece.

In Game 2, Ledford smacked a grand slam for the Wolves. Garrison Price had a home run for the Wolves, who also received an RBI from both Brandon Jolliff and Griffin Price.

FLOWERY BRANCH SPLITS: Flowery Branch earned a 1-0 win in Game 1 against Villa Rica before falling, 10-8, in Game 2 in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs Friday in Villa Rica. 

In Game 2, the No. 3 seed Falcons were down 10-4 in the bottom of the seventh when Trace Merck scored off a sac fly from AJ Gonzalez to cut the lead 10-5. TJ Armstrong further sliced the lead when he blasted a three-run homer.

The Falcons will try to earn a spot in the second round with a decisive Game 3 at 1 p.m. Saturday in Villa Rica.

CHESTATEE SPLITS: Fourth-seeded Chestatee dropped Game 1 of its Class 4A first-round playoff series against Jefferson, 3-2, before earning a 5-3 win in Game 2 on Friday in Jefferson. 

In Game 2, Caleb Carter, Benson Miller and Cooper Wilson had an RBI for Chestatee, which will attempt to take the series from the top-seeded Dragons in Game 3 at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jefferson.

EAST HALL SWEPT: No. 4 seed East Hall got knocked out in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs with losses of 6-1 and 2-0 to Morgan County on Friday in Madison. 

In Game 1, Tripp Rider had three strikeouts for East Hall. Luke Cooper, Trey Campbell, Dylan Day and Rider contributed a hit for East Hall. In Game 2, Rider had eight strikeouts for the Vikings.

WEST HALL SWEPT: Third-seeded West Hall was knocked out in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs after dropping Game 1, 5-6, and Game 2, 12-0, against North Oconee on Friday in Bogart.
