Hanson solid, but G-Braves lose

The Durham Bulls downed the Gwinnett Braves, 4-3, Sunday, breaking a three-all tie in the top of the ninth when Ray Olmedo singled home Matt Joyce.

Gwinnett starter Tommy Hanson struck out nine in eight innings, but allowed three solo home runs in his second straight no-decision. Reliever Matt Gomez (2-1) took the loss. Hanson’s ERA now stands at 1.99.

Brandon Jones led the Gwinnett offense, going 2-for-2. No other Brave had more than one hit.

Justin Ruggiano, who slugged three home runs in Durham’s win Saturday night, hit solo shot in the first inning to give the Bulls the early lead.

Joyce finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Braves (14-17) play host to the Bulls (18-12) again at 2 p.m. today.
