Yellow Jackets 2B wins softball scholar-athlete award

Georgia Tech second baseman Jen Yee has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference 2010 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Tuesday by ACC commissioner John D. Swofford.

The redshirt senior was one of five Yellow Jackets named to the All-ACC Academic Softball team. Christy Jones, Kate Kuzma, Jessica Sinclair and Kelsi Weseman were also honored.

To be eligible of Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average in each of the last two semesters and have maintained a 3.00 GPA throughout her career. Yee reached base safely in all 62 games this season and leads the nation in batting average (.568), slugging percentage (1.270), on-base percentage (.732), runs scored (93) and walks (88).

The announcement came a day after Yellow Jackets junior shortstop Derek Dietrich was named ACC 2010 Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
