Tech's Dwyer named preseason ACC Player of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Virginia Tech is the overwhelming preseason pick to win a third straight Atlantic Coast Conference championship.

The Hokies earned 69 of 87 votes from media members at the ACC Football Kickoff preseason event in results released Monday. Virginia Tech was picked to beat predicted Atlantic Division champion Florida State in the title game, which will be held Dec. 5 in Tampa, Fla.

The Hokies have won three league titles since joining the league in 2004, including the past two ACC championship games.

Georgia Tech's Jonathan Dwyer was named the preseason ACC player of the year, earning 39 votes to outdistance Clemson's C.J. Spiller and North Carolina State's Russell Wilson. Spiller earned 28 votes while Wilson earned 16.
