Georgia Tech junior shortstop Derek Dietrich has been named the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Monday.
The management major becomes Tech’s first recipient of the award. He carried a 4.0 grade point average during the spring semester and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 in three years. Dietrich batted .350 during the 2010 season with 17 home runs and 61 RBIs while earning first-team All-ACC honors.
Joining Dietrich on the All-ACC Academic team from Georgia Tech are seniors Jay Dantzler and Tony Plagman, junior Cole Leonida and sophomore Jacob Esch.
