Georgia’s Sundiata Gaines was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week Monday.

Gaines, a 6-foot-1 senior, has scored double figures in his past three games, including a career-high 32 points along with eight rebounds, four assists, and three assists against SEC rival Florida. He followed up the performance with 27 points against South Carolina on Wednesday.

Most recently, he led the Bulldogs with 23 points along with nine rebounds, eight assists and three steals in a game that saw Georgia nearly upset No. 4 Tennessee on Saturday.

Gaines leads all Georgia players in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, minutes played, free throws made and free throws attempted. He recently became the first player in Georgia basketball history to score 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists.

The weekly honor is Gaines’ second SEC Player of the Week, previously winning the award in December of 2006.
