Two Gainesville weightlifters won national championships for their divisions at the American Powerlifting Committee National Championship on Friday in Peoria, Ill.
Jacob Townsend, a member of the Georgia IronDawgs, won a national title in the 18-19 year-old 100-kilogram division. His squat, bench and dead lift combined for 637.5 kilograms, including a 252 kilogram squat, a national record for his age group.
Tyler Brown, also a Georgia IronDawg, also won a national title, with a combined weight of 787.5 kilograms in the 18-19 year-old super heavyweight. He also set a world record for his age group with a bench press of 265 kilograms.
National Championship lifting continues today and Sunday.
