Gainesville High grad Josh Davis named assistant baseball coach at Georgia State

Gainesville High graduate Josh Davis was named Friday as an assistant baseball coach for Georgia State University. Davis, who is the son of North Hall High graduate and former Chicago Cubs catcher Jody Davis, spent the past four seasons as the pitching coach for Richmond University. 

Before his time at Richmond, Davis spent three seasons (2011-13) as an assistant coach at Presbyterian. In his final two seasons at Presbyterian, Davis was pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. His first two years out of college, Davis was on the staff at Richland College in Dallas. While there, the program won the 2009 National Junior College Division III national title. 

Davis, who won three state championships with the Red Elephants, began his college career at Virginia Tech, followed by a year at Tallahassee Community College (Fla.) and his final two seasons at Charleston Southern.
