The Gainesville 10-11 year old All-Star baseball team advanced to the state semifinals with a 2-1 win against Martinez Wednesday night at Murphy-Chandler Park in DeKalb County. With the win, Gainesville faces Cartersville at 6 p.m. Friday night at Murphy-Candler Park. Gainesville’s Sam Carpenter picked up his fourth win in the postseason pitching six innings allowing no earned runs with nine strikeouts. Mikey Gonzalez drove in the eventual game winning RBI to score Drew Wright in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ryan Whittemore also recorded a defensive assist from the outfield to preserve Gainesville’s win.
