G-Braves win third straight over Pawtucket

The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Gwinnett Stadium.

The G-Braves improve to 70-52 on the season while the PawSox fall to 52-67.G-Braves’ starter Jonny Venters allowed just one earned run in six strong innings on Sunday to earn his third win of the season. He is now 3-5 with a 5.68 ERA in 13 starts with the G-Braves.

Wes Timmons led off the fourth inning with a bunt single to extend his on-base streak to 48 games. Timmons finished the game 1-for-3 with a walk. Diory Hernandez and Chris Burke each drove in runs in the win.

Pawtucket saw a nice start by Michael Bowden go by the wayside. But the PawSox couldn’t provide any support, collecting just three hits in Bowden’s sixth loss of the season.  Bowden held the G-Braves to two runs in 6 2/3 innings but falls to 4-6 on the season with a 3.20 ERA.

Gwinnett and Pawtucket will wrap-up the four-game series on Monday. The G-Braves will send LHP Jo-Jo Reyes (2-1, 2.56 ERA) to face PawSox righty Adam Mills (0-1, 22.50 ERA).

First pitch in the series finale is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.Monday’s game will be televised regionally on Comcast Sports Southeast as well as nationally on the MLB Network. It will be the second Minor League Baseball game to be aired live and in its entirety on MLB Network. The first Minor League game to be telecast on MLB Network also took place at Gwinnett Stadium, when the G-Braves defeated the Louisville Bats 8-7 on June 30. Gwinnett entered the bottom of the eighth inning trailing 7-1 but scored seven times, including a grand slam by Reid Gorecki, for the thrilling come-from-behind victory.
