G-Braves lose series opener at Durham

The Gwinnett Braves scored twice in the first inning, but it wasn’t enough as the Durham Bulls came from behind to win 8-3 on Tuesday night in Durham, N.C. Reid Gorecki doubled for the G-Braves (45-41) in the first inning and scored on a sacrifice fly from Kelly Johnson. Wes Timmons singled and scored on a sacrifice fly in the first off the bat of Barbaro Canizares.

Timmons extended his streak to 31 games reaching base safely for the G-Braves. Gorecki, Brandon Jones and Timmons each finished with a pair of hits for the G-Braves in the first game of a three-game series. Canizares added a double for Triple-A Gwinnett. G-Braves catcher Alvin Colina also added a hit.

Justin Ruggiano led Durham (50-35) with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Reid Brignac and John Jaso each finished with a pair of hits for Triple-A Durham.

Game 2 of the series is at 7 p.m. tonight in Durham, N.C.
