After spending a year out of state, former Buford High football coach Jess Simpson will be coming back home.

Simpson was hired Tuesday as defensive line coach for the Atlanta Falcons. The announcement was sent through a press release from the organization. He took the position previously held by Bryant Young, who stepped down earlier in the day to spend more time with his family.

“We are excited to bring Jess back to the staff,” Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said in a statement. “His existing knowledge of our scheme and familiarity with our players will help add to the strength of our defense in 2019.”

As a high school coach, Simpson kept Buford at the top, winning seven state titles over 12 seasons finishing his time there with a 164-12 record.

In 2018, Simpson was defensive line coach at the University of Miami. In 2016, he was defensive line coach and assistant head coach at Georgia State.
