Matt Savage shot a 5-under 66 to take a one shot lead at 7-under over Augusta State alumni Major Manning in the second round of the NGA Tour’s Milton Martin Honda Classic at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville.
University of Florida grad Tyson Alexander, who was in the lead at 6-under after day one, was still on the course when play was suspended for the second consecutive day; he had shot a 65 to take the lead on Thursday.
Savage, who shot a 69 on Thursday, scored five birdies through his first ten holes Friday.
Justin Smith, Nick Rousey, Connor Arendell and Tyler Brown all shot 67 on Friday and were tied for fourth at 5-under par when play was halted. Scott Feaster is also 5-under par after shooting a 1-under 70 in the second round.
Randall Hutchison, Chas Narramore, T.J. Bordeaux, Bo Hoag, Gabe Maier, Scott Weatherly and David Dragoo were unable to finish their second rounds on Friday, but after shooting 66 in the first round, the group remains tied for fourth.
John Duthie carded the lowest round of the players that did complete the second round of play. Duthie shot a 6-under 65 to move to 4-under par and into a tie for 16th with Daniel Burns, Ryan Spears and Alfredo Adrian, who was still on the course when play was stopped Friday evening.
Gainesville resident Jim Foote, who shot a 70 on Thursday, was still on the course when play was suspended Friday.
At the conclusion of play, the cut was projected at 1-over par. The players that did not complete the second round will resume play at 8:30 a.m., while the third round is scheduled to start at approximately 12:30 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
